Getting frustrated

So I have the shelf where I keep what used to be my cat’s favorite toy, a fishing rod toy, and a worm attachment though I weekly rotate through different types of attachments.

Recently, he’s been yelling and indicating that he wants to play with the fishing rod and I’ll try to oblige him, but he’ll completely ignore it when I do.

There’s literally nothing else on that shelf that is a cat toy. It’s been like this for about two months. Not sure what to do. He refuses to play anymore, but yet yells at that one shelf.

Any thoughts?
