Recently my boyfriend (21M) told me (20F) about a traumatic response and I didn’t know how to respond and now he is upset with me
Recently my boyfriend went on a trip to a city 2 hours away as he plays hockey, during this time I didn’t have much communication with him as he got stressed and had too much on his plate so he didn’t have time to call with me, he kept trying to make plans to call but they never followed through leaving me a bit frustrated. During his last day on his trip he seemed off and he eventually told me what was wrong when he got home and he initially said that his best friend broke his leg. I thought he just heard about this and was upset that his friend broke his leg and nothing more, so I told him that im sorry that happened to his friend asked if he had any family problems during the weekend and if that was also adding onto why he was upset as he mentioned it before. He then proceeded to be bewildered and hurt by what I just said as he then told me that he SAW his best friend fall, break his leg the other way, and his friends mom rush out crying and heard the whole thing as he was there. He now told me that he needed time and space and was uncomfortable with the way I initially responded and now he is ignoring me. I feel like he put me in a position that didn’t give me the full story which lead me to not respond in the correct way and has now lead him to be upset with me. How do I move forward? Do I give him space and check in every couple of days? I just can’t have him ignore me for a month and eventually fade away as im scared of that happening and its what my last ex did before he broke it off with me a couple months ago so I can’t have him just not communicate with me for a month.
