Hey everyone! I’m setting up a beginner-friendly but long-term lampworking studio at home and would love your advice.

I took a flameworking class at Corning Glass a few years ago and also run a small stained glass business. I’m a beginner in lampworking but experienced with glass in general, so I want a setup that’s safe, expandable, and built to last. I understand this hobby isn’t cheap and am willing to invest in high-quality equipment for safety and longevity.

I’ll be working in a detached garage in Alaska, so any tips for proper ventilation and cold-weather safety would be amazing. I want to make sure I have the right ventilation, safety gear, and annealing processes from the start.

I plan to use propane and oxygen and need recommendations for essential, reliable gear, including:
Didymium glasses
Torches and gas setups
Oxygen concentrators
Hoses, mandrels, bead release, cooling beads
Graphite marver, brass press
Kilns for annealing flameworked pieces and fusing small stained glass pieces
Trusted glass suppliers, especially those that ship reasonably to Alaska (if possible)

I’ve done some research but would love input from people who actually use this gear day-to-day, your favorite, most reliable items for beginners that still hold up for professional work.

Is there anything else I’ve missed that I’ll need to safely and successfully get started?

*If there’s a FAQ, wiki, or post I missed, I’d be happy to be redirected!*

Thanks for the guidance and cheers to making beautiful glass safely!
