Maybe it’s for the best?

Maybe I’m just wildly coping, but the thought does occur to me:

Big picture, maybe it’s a net benefit to us to not make the CFP, particularly in terms of how the program is perceived and, by extension, in recruiting.

If we were to make the CFP (obvious spoiler alert: we won’t), one or more of the following could happen: OU could have another shot at us; TAMU could have another shot at us; we could lose to a lesser team; and/or we could get dominated by a better team. Unless we actually won the whole damn thing, or at least make the last four and then lost in a lose game, what do we really gain?

Given, however, that we aren’t making the CFP, none of those scenarios play out; we hopefully finish with a statement win against Michigan or another respectable opponent; we finish 10-3; and the next nine months are filled with a lingering sense of aggrievement and “what if” about Texas being excluded.
