AITA If I distance myself from my best friend because maybe she doesn't even appreciates me (or maybe I'm just a weirdo)?
I (17F) need to complain and light up some things about my friendship with this girl (17F).
I have this friend that I met seven years ago and with whom I became best friends during pandemic - I think the "best friend" thing is one-sided, ill explain later-. She's... amazing. She has good grades, she goes to parties, she has a lot of friends besides me and an active romantic life. The total opposite of me (well, not the grades part)
Our friendship, since we started high school, has turned into a bit of a rivalry, for whatever reason: grades, clothes, influence. There's envy, I think it's already obvious on my side, but I know it's also on hers, we even had a conversation about that, we needed hugging and not really talking.
The problem starts with the fact that we've always been in separate groups but meeting up from time to time when we both needed each other, but this year, for reasons unknown, we've ended up being just the two of us. And suddenly, I was no longer her favorite person??? I mean, I know I never was, but I considered her my bsf and she did it too at some point.
He's been talking to this girl (17F) more lately, And he's left me out. I mean, we talk during breaks and sometimes during class, but... it's all so cold.
I know, believe me, I know, it's probably my fault too, but... can't she pretend she enjoys her seven years friend's company, at least in front of everyone else? I feel ridiculed sometimes.
And, God, I've done SO MANY things for her. I've fought with my parents because they insist she's manipulating me, and I insist that's what any friend would do. I've gone with her to sneak out at night to see her boyfriend, I've gone with her to another city to see the same guy, I've given her a dog (okay, this isn't a big deal but my mom beat the crap out of me for it???), I've sent her very long messages every birthday, I've given her gifts every birthday, I tell her everything, I buy dinner for her every time she came.
This has been the first time in seven years that she has given me a gift. She tells her friends important things (like university application deadlines) but somehow I'm always the last to know, idk.
But... Yes, she loves me, she's told me so. She was the only one who came to visit me when I was completely consumed by depression. The one who has always come back despite everything, The one who asked me how I am, where I am. Shouldn't I return it back?
What was the straw that broke the camel's back? She has her best friends in her pinned Instagram stories. Am I in there? No. Did I care? No! But I just realized she included this new friend in them, in a special section only for her.
I know it sounds ridiculous and immature, but it hurt me a lot.
Whatever.
AITA If walked away from her without any explanation and told her to go to hell?
(This is very long, sorry)
