AM4 upgrade or AM5 Switch

Build Upgrade

TLDR: AM4 Upgrade of CPU (3700x to 5700x3d/5800x3d) or change platform to AM5 (7800x3d/MOBO/RAM)

PC: 9070xt / 3700X / 16GB RAM

So I'm based in Australia so supply and prices vary a good bit so this is a bit of a custom query. I've recently upgraded from a 2080super to a 9070xt since AMD has finally hit MSRP (9070xt $750USD VS 5070TI $980USD), which was a no brainer, and have been planning to make the jump over to AM5 platform until RAM prices tripled over night.

I'm now considering taking a new approach considering the DRR5 RAM supply issye doesn't look like it's being fixed any time soon. (Crypto mining GPU pricing trauma flashbacks). I've never dabbled with 2nd hand components let alone CPUs so I don't know what the typical risks and repricing should be either. Again Australian stock levels and pricing is different.

Here are my options - I want to hear what you guys think is the best value/pros&cons weighting:

Option 1

  • Upgrade current Ryzen 7 3700X CPU to 2nd hand Ryzen 7 5800x3D ($390USD - upto 4 years old since release) and stay AM4 till AM6

Option 2

  • Upgrade current Ryzen 7 3700X CPU to 2nd hand Ryzen 7 5700x3D ($325USD - upto 2 years old since release) and stay AM4 till AM6

Option 3

  • Upgrade current Ryzen 7 3700X to Brand New Ryzen 7 5800X ($175USD) and plan for AM5

Option 4

  • AM5 Switch to Brand New 7800x3D ($390USD), MOBO ($195USD), 32GB RAM ($295 - $390USD)

Option 5

  • Nothing, just wait out the market.

What sucks the most is the 2nd hand unknown quality 5800x3d is the same price as an Brand New 7800x3D but it requires the AM5 Switch where I cant bring my old RAM and new RAM has tripled in price..

No idea what to do - I need your expertise!
