Is an MBA (ISB/Top B-School) worth it at 34 for a major career & salary jump?

GMAT Preparation

I'm 33 years old, earning ~8 LPA, and I feel stuck in my current role. I don’t have an MBA, and I’m seriously considering preparing for GMAT and applying to ISB or other top B-schools next year, which means I’ll be 34 by the time I apply. I am an average student at academics.

I'm mainly looking for people in India who’ve done an MBA in their 30s:

• Did it actually help you break out of a stagnant salary band?
• Was the ROI worth the fees + time + effort?
• Does age (33–35) affect placements at ISB? Am I too old for meaningful post-MBA boost?
• Is it realistic to expect a big jump after the program?

• Minimal opportunity cost (so ISB’s 1-year PGP is appealing)

Is pursuing an elite MBA at 34 worth it? Do people actually see the boost they expect? Would love real experiences from those who made the switch in their 30s and above.

And lastly, would top tier B schools accept a below average academic student with 8+ years of experience into Finance & Tax, provided I have good GMAT score? Or open for suggestions to attempt for tests like XAT, I am not considering CAT due to higher rate of competition.

I would really appreciate if someone or the (Top tier alumni) responds to the above. I am in a conundrum! Please HELP!
