Proposal: Repair Credit System for Each Series?

Discussion

So, here’s an idea I’ve been thinking about for a while, and I’m curious what the community thinks.

iRacing currently uses a safety rating system so that there are consequences and therefore we avoid finding ourselves in an arcade game situation.

BUT, people still drive like they’ve got infinite cars in the garage. Divebombs, YOLO moves, “send it and pray”… you know the drill. So the realism is not great.

What if each series (or some of them) had a limited repair budget for the season?

Basic concept:

  • Each series gives you a certain number of Repair Credits at the start of the season.
  • Every repair consumes credits (both during the race and at the end in case of any residual damage)
  • If you run out of credits, you can Reset your budget, but you lose the results for that series (points and race participation)

In other words: Crash less = keep progressing. Crash constantly = start over, and lose the chance to compete in the series, and to get iRacing credits with the participations

What this system encourages:

  • Cleaner racing overall.
  • A feeling that a “season” actually matters, instead of just grinding races endlessly.
  • A lot more realism

Have your say
