Help me decide on my 4 year old daughter's first keyboard or piano
My daughter has grown up with a tiny mini piano (just two octaves with tiny keys) that she is showing increased interested in.
Now that she's 4 1/2, my wife and I have decided we'd like to try introducing her to the basics of piano playing. I used to play piano seriously, but sold my equipment, so we discussed buying a digital piano that we as a family could share.
However, after doing some research, I've decided that I think a digital piano is actually overkill for my daughter's needs. I didn't find the entry level digital pianos that exciting (i.e. FP-30x, Yamaha 225), in large due to their sound libraries being limited compared to what I was used to. My favorite options ended up being out of our budget in the $1500-$2400 range. In particular I loved the creative offerings from Casio on the higher end.
On top of that, I was noticing how the weighted keys could be difficult for a four year old. I grew up on an upright piano with very light action that was nowhere near as weighted as most of these options that felt more like a concert grand to me (i.e. FP-30x keys).
TLDR - In the end, I realized that a keyboard like the Roland GO:Keys 3 actually better checks off our boxes. It's under budget, has the sound library variety/quality/computer connectivity important to me for revisiting composing, and has the lighter action I think that could better serve as an intro to playing for my daughter.
If she ends up not being interested, the $200-$300 range investment feels lower risk. And if she is, we can always revisit a higher budget digital piano later.
However, I still feel a bit conflicted about which one to buy. The GO:Keys 3 seems to have the superior sound library (my top priority), but I am reading some complaints about the action being "stiff", and see some prefer Casio models at a similar price range - i.e. casio ct-x700, casio ct-x3000, etc.
Unfortunately the GO:Keys 3 is not available at my local stores, so I will have to go a bit blind on pulling the trigger.
So curious if people have any thoughts, based on this criteria? (4 year old friendly, but also has a sound library+connectivity options that could be fun for me to revisit composing with)
