You’re Not Too Much, You Were Just Trained to Overgive
Codependency doesn’t start with the other person.
It starts the moment you decide your peace is less important than their approval.
You stop setting boundaries because you’re scared they’ll leave.
You overfunction to keep the connection alive.
You twist yourself to keep the mood “safe.”
You call it love, but deep down, you know it’s fear.
Here’s the part no one tells you:
Codependency isn’t about being “too nice.”
It’s about outsourcing your self-worth.
You attach to people who feel familiar.
And if “familiar” means walking on eggshells, overexplaining, or proving you’re enough...
then you’ll confuse anxiety with connection until your nervous system is so used to survival mode that calm feels boring.
You think you’re staying to fix it.
But you’re really staying because you haven’t rebuilt a version of you that doesn’t need to earn love.
You don’t need more effort.
You need separation between your identity and their validation.
That’s why I write No Mixed Signals, weekly breakdowns on boundaries, detachment, emotional patterns, and the internal clarity that makes you unshakable in relationships.
You can stop proving.
Start choosing.
