Telling other players to “go kill yourself” in Marvel Rivals can be illegal in most countries. Also, how to report player in a different way.
Quick reminder for anyone playing Marvel Rivals:
Telling someone “go kill yourself,” “you should die,” or anything similar is not normal trash talk. It’s not edgy. And in many places, it’s literally against the law.
🇺🇸 In the United States
Many states make it a crime to advise, encourage, or assist someone to commit suicide.
Examples:
- California – Penal Code §401 Encouraging or advising someone to commit suicide is a felony.
- Texas – Penal Code §22.08 “Aiding suicide” is a criminal offense; penalties increase if serious harm or death occurs.
- Minnesota – Stat. §609.215 Advising, encouraging, or assisting suicide can lead to felony charges.
- Florida, Colorado, Louisiana, Wisconsin, and many others have similar laws.
Even in states without a specific statute, this behavior can still fall under harassment, cyberbullying, or manslaughter-related charges depending on the situation.
🇨🇦 In Canada
Under Criminal Code of Canada §241, it is illegal to:
- (A) counsel a person to commit suicide
This applies even if the person does NOT attempt suicide.
Maximum penalty: up to 14 years in prison.
This absolutely includes online communication — games, chats, Discord, whatever.
How to report people in a way to get actual action (BAN) from netease.
If you think the person do deserve a ban but really want to get Netease to action then do this:
- Press ESC and click on Customer Support.
- You will have a window that will open. Click on report a player
3 ) A message will pop telling you how to report players. Just ignore it and press report player button.
- Fill the form
If you go back to the previous screen with the report player button and click
Bottom line
Suggestion of suicide isn’t harmless “gaming banter.” You never know what someone is going through, and this kind of message can genuinely push someone over the edge.
If you hear players using this kind of language: report them.
Let’s keep Marvel Rivals competitive, not cruel.
For the “edgy boys” calling people snowflakes:
Banter is fine — I do it too — but there’s a difference between jokes and crossing into illegal territory. There’s a line, and you don’t get to pretend it isn’t there. That's how people you know will turn against you.
And just to be clear: I encourage the mods to step in if anyone goes over that line in this thread.
