Hi yall, so my friend has two male guinea pigs (un neutered if that means anything important) they are bonded I think but a few hours ago she said she has to give them away and I said I’d take them, I know they weren’t very well taken care of and def had a small cage (it was those build able ones with like the frosted plastic but it was built 1x2 or 3 with two levels) she said I can have everything for them so I’ll have the cage I’m thinking just to leave it one level and it to be 5x3, I have a liner for the floor, a bunch of fleece blankets that I washed with scent free everything, some of those bath rugs, and a few chew ball things, she sent me a list of everything they have but I don’t know if they need anything else I’ll put a screenshot of the list. And a list of questions I have lol

But what do I do when I get them tommorow? Do I just let them chill for a few days before I try and bond with them?

I have to leave for 3 hours that day to do will the alone time be good?

Should I turn the lights off or keep them on for the routine?

Also I have a feeling they will be pretty dirty because I know she doesn’t clean the cage a lot, can I just wipe them down with some pet wipes and bathe them in a few weeks? And when should I try to cut their nails?

If I want to switch their food and hay to higher quality stuff can I just switch it or does it have to be added slowly?

Does cold bother them? My room is usually cold because I leave the windows open a lot, should I stop that atleast for winter? Or will a bunch of blankets and beds+hides be enough?

How much do I feed them per day? I saw they should get a cup of vegetables each per day is that good? And what kinds?

Can I build stuff from cardboard for them?

Do their names have any meaning to them? Like do they recognize it? I want to change them because they’re marvel themed and I don’t really watch it

Are water bottles fine for them? Or should I have bowls to?

For pellets are they kept in bowls or scattered?

Okay I think that’s all for now, pls answer any questions you know lol

Sincerely,
A frantic newbie
