The "gas chambers" in Night by Elie Wiesel that were never there?
Okay so I just realized something wild. I went back and checked my copy of Night and there is literally ZERO mention of gas chambers or even the word "gas" in Wiesel's actual narrative.
Not once.
But I swear everyone who read this book in high school remembers him talking about gas chambers. The whole thing describes the selections, the flames, the crematoria, the burning pits but never actually says "gas chambers", "gas" or "to the gas".
The fact that so many people are 100% convinced they read it in there is actually crazy to me. Did you read Night? Do you remember the gas chamber part? Check your book.
