My experience urban car living in NYC/Brooklyn
I got depressed and decided to move into my car. I work a lot, but the nights or days i don't work, i sleep in my car. Being that when i wake up there's more sun than inside a house, it motivated me to work on myself by learning new things. At first i would sleep in the back of my car, and then i started sleeping in the front seat. I leave my car on, with the heat high, and then turn the car off when it gets hot. At first i had a set street to sleep, and then i moved around. When i fell asleep in busier areas, i had people knock on my window to ask if i was alright. I have a hybrid, so around once a week i charge my car overnight at work. Some neighborhoods have horrible parking while others have decent parking. A couple of times i went to a bar, and then went back to my car and fell asleep, which kind of felt good. I realize living in my car, i'm labeled as homeless. I noticed people talk about this homeless person or that homeless person around me, and i realized people treat homeless people less as individuals, but more as a group, and if somebody doesn't know me, but finds out i'm living in my car, i'm slapped with a label, certain people might be less inclined to talk to me. I'm more sensitive to seeing people in the street asking for money than i used to be, i always was, but now i speak to them a little more. I did also notice i'm more in my head, and not interacting enough. I crawl in my skin around people, until i'm comfortable around them, but i love being being around them, even if i don't know them. I'm sorry for my ramble.
