Delhi’s Pollution Crisis Might Get Even Worse After New Aravalli Ruling
According to new rule from supreme court only hills above 100 metres will be considered as Aravalli Hills and all other hills are open for mining activities.
Here's how delhi will be affected by this-
Possible increase in air pollution and dust — especially during windy/dusty seasons — if mining or excavation on formerly protected hills begins.
Groundwater stress and dropping water tables — since low-lying hills and scrublands help recharge aquifers; losing them could hit water supply for suburbs/growth corridors.
Less green cover, more heat and pollution — leading to deterioration in environmental quality, urban heat island effect, and loss of natural habitat/amenities.
Urban expansion pressure: With more “available” land, there may be push for construction, real estate projects — which could further strain infrastructure, environment, and quality of life.
Ecological balance & flood/dust mitigation compromised — weaker Aravalli barrier could mean more dust storms, desertification pressure from west (Thar desert), and worse climate resilience.
I think this rule will help only political leaders and their mining mafia's friends.
