Advice for players looking to compete in PVP & PVE speedruns

Discussion

Hi folks, if you are currently competing in PVP & PVE speed runs, or is planning to participate sometime in the future, I would strongly encourage you to start sending reports to support asking for a resolution of network latency issues now. Whether they can solve this through adding more servers, or delay compensation, or anything that they can come up with, action needs to be taken to make the game fair for most players across the globe.

As someone who played on the CN server for about 1 year already, I can confidently say that the latency problem caused by having one server is the single biggest problem in this game. And now that the game has players across the globe, this issue will become way more serious than it used to be. The fact is, right now on the CN server, anyone who would like to compete for the top, whether it's PVP or PVE speedrun, needs to be located in HangZhou (the only server location in China) or be very close to it, and this is extremely unfair for everyone else playing the game.

Concretely speaking, the single server location problem for people on the CN server is already way less impactful than the global servers, since the highest latency you can get for anywhere in China is only at 70-80 with good internet. However, if you look at the global server distribution, there exists one and only one server for the entire North and South America combined (Ashburn, VA), and there exists one and only one server for the entire EU (I don't know where it's located but hopefully someone can tell in this post), and this is inevitably going to make the situation a lot worse.

To put the latency problem into perspective, it's been estimated that for PVE, you lose at least 10% of the damage for every 50ms of latency, everything else being equal (stats, weapon class, skill level, etc.). For PVP, it is not only a damage loss problem, but a win or lose problem as a lot of the real combos are interruptible by other players as long as there is a noticeable ping difference. Therefore, if the devs are not going to resolve the server location problem promptly, there will soon be a day where all charts and rankings are dominated by players close to the server locations, just like the CN server today, and obviously this is not fair for anyone else who would like to participate seriously in multiplayer competitions
