The only way to improve hygiene of our street food/restaurants: Review their cleanliness on Google/offline

#General 📝

Lots of posts and videos these days about how dirty and unhygienic Indian street food is. Or even about how dirty lots of places are.

As others have pointed out, no one is going to come fix it unless the shop owners and residents of the area feel the pinch. Complaining online does nothing.

As someone who goes out to eat frequently - I do note Google reviews of restaurants and street food joints. When a lot of reviews say some place is dirty, I will not go there. But so many reviews just have one liners about "tasty food" or "cheap food", they don't mention the hygiene at all.

Can we all make it a point to take about cleanliness, neatness, freshness of the places we eat at, online? Turn this into a major criterion for eating somewhere.

For shops that are set up next to gutters or open trash heaps, make sure to mention that in their reviews. Sooner or later the business owners do take notice.

In Bangalore, we have a couple of restaurants that have specifically made their hygiene a selling point - Arogya Ahara and Taaza Thindi. It works well for them, too. We could repeat this same for every place around us.

What do you think? Any other ideas we can follow, as consumers but also as people who want the situation to improve?
