Why are Hollywood executives in the 2020s so out of touch?

Discussion 💭🗯️

The other day, I was watching Zootopia 2 and I have noticed that it maintained several aspects of the first film that are kind of "dated" by 2025 standards such as there being references to DVDs or Shakira starring in the film.

I have noticed that Hollywood is similarly out of touch for other trends as it focuses on 80s nostalgia (which does not make as much sense now because the 90s and 2000s are supposed to be the hot decades for nostalgia yet they still reboot 80s properties and force 80s references in films), having a "quirky millennial" style of humor (which is noticeable in films like in the Freaky Friday reboot), and other things that make the films feel like they are stuck in the past.

Why is this the case? Why do Hollywood executives focus on things that feel "outdated" by 2025 standards and feel more sense in a 2010s movie?
