I want to advance my playing, what should I practice???

For reference, I've been playing for five years, and I've gotten decently good, but not great, I want to learn some basic theory, and soloing, because I've accidentally become a power chord warrior, I'm into anything like Alt Rock, Thrash Metal, Groove Metal, and Nu Metal, so what can I do? What scales are easy to learn?
