Is it me or is the average height of women rising considerably?
27 M recently got my height checked during a physical and I was informed that I'm 5'6
I then thought to myself that can't be right because whenever I'm out in public I'll notice about half of all the women I walk past are at least half a head taller than I am, which would mean these women are averaging 5'9. I'll even sometimes check if they're wearing heels and no, like me they'll be wearing sneakers. slides, or some other casual footwear.
I live in Canada and its expected that women from european backgrounds are usually gonna be taller on average but I've observed this trend in women of all backgrounds. Hell, I work with a woman who recently moved here from Somalia and I'm pretty sure she stands around 6'2-6'4 since my head doesn't even reach her shoulders.
What's consistent however is that these women are typically in their teens, 20s, or maybe 30s when I do spot a woman who isn't my height or taller its usually someone much older like around 50-60s.
And I dont really see younger men growing at a similar rate. At least from my perspective they seem to be about as tall as they've always been, which is around 5'10-6'2.
Now its silly to come to such a conclusion off of my anecdote alone but this trend has me thinking that maybe genes that correlate with shortness are being bred out a lot faster than many believe. I wouldn't be surprised if in the next 10 years 5'10 will start being considered short... for a woman
