A Sunday Açaí Bowl Paid in Sats

Over the past few weeks, I’ve visited four different Square merchants, hoping for the chance to tell them they can now accept Bitcoin-and avoid transaction fees and chargebacks. Honestly, the reactions weren’t surprising, though a little disappointing. One merchant was polite but neutral and noncommittal. The other three never replied to the emails I sent.

But today was different. I’ve been checking the Bitcoin map in Cash App every few days, and I noticed a new location pop up: an açaí bowl shop. I’d never tried an açaí bowl before, so I decided it would make a light and healthy Sunday meal.

When I arrived, I saw a table tent on the counter announcing that they accept Bitcoin. I pointed to the sign and said I’d be paying that way. The owner looked a little nervous, but the transaction went flawlessly. Afterward, he seemed genuinely astonished-it turned out I was his very first Bitcoin customer.

He immediately started asking questions, like what company “runs” Bitcoin. I did my best to contain my excitement as I explained that it’s just like cash: there isn’t a company behind it. We talked for five to ten minutes, and he was thrilled about the idea of eliminating merchant fees. He even said he wants to attract more Bitcoin users to his store.

When I got home, I bought back the sats I had spent on sale! It felt great to finally have a positive experience. I’ll keep trying, but moments like this remind me-it’s worth the effort.
