Manager made my boyfriend stay late off the clock while he did a “lap around the store”. Is this okay??
Just what the title says.
I’m not a cashier so I’m not sure how this works, I’m in paint. But he had to stay 30 minutes after close to help manager and head cashier do some stuff, then ended up staying (clocked in) 40 minutes after close because the cash machine was being slow. Then the three of them, assistant manager, head cashier, and him all go clock out and go outside. Keep in mind it’s snowing. The roads are getting worse by the minute. Regardless, manager says “I’ve gotta go do a lap, you stay here” (at his car in the parking lot) then manager takes a solid 10 or so minutes to do his “lap” in his own car. My boyfriend has clocked out, and (in my opinion) should have been gone 20 minutes ago.
Is this against SOP for unpaid labor? Even though he was just waiting there to go home? He was still told by a higher up to stay on the property until he gives permission that him and the head cashier could leave.
