Screen stays black

Hi I recently bought a second hand E17P display. When connected to my macbook or PC, the devices recognize the display in the settings but the display stays dark. Sound works fine. I'm using the provided purple USB-C cable and I've tried also plugging power into the Espresso display at the same time - nothing works. Did anyone ever encounter this issue? Trying to figure out if the display is bust.
