Mac + Controller Help
Hi! I have read almost all of the threads on here about this and am at a loss... so I figured I would try posting.
I’m trying to get my PS4/Xbox controller working to play SSO on my Mac M2 (got it in 2023 - it is updated to latest version), but I’ve hit a wall. I’ve tried multiple approaches, but nothing works. Hoping someone here has a solution or workaround!
Here’s what I’ve tried so far:
1. Using Steam
- Tried enabling Xbox and Generic Controller support
- Tried Steam Input on/off
- Works fine in Steam menus, but as soon as Star Stable launches, the controller stops working
2. Enjoyable (controller mapping app for Mac)
- Mapped all buttons and sticks manually
- Works while Enjoyable is running and in test mode
- Still stops working when the game launches
- Tried both PS4 and Xbox controllers
- Wired and Bluetooth connections tested
3. Big Picture Mode
- Tried launching Star Stable through Steam Big Picture Mode
- Only the home button responds, nothing else works
4. Other Mac drivers/tools
- Attempted installing 360 controller drivers, but installation failed and uninstallation failed as well
- Tried multiple driver settings, Steam settings, and mapping profiles
5. Other approaches considered
- Bootcamp is not an option because I have an M2 Mac
Current situation:
- The PS4 controller is recognized in macOS and Steam menus
- Manual mapping works in Enjoyable while the app is open, but Star Stable ignores it
- Wired or Bluetooth connections make no difference**.**
Has anyone successfully used a PS4 or Xbox controller for Star Stable on an M2 Mac? If so, what setup did you use? (Parallels, UTM, other workarounds, etc.)
I’d really appreciate detailed steps if possible. I was super hopeful I'd be able to use a controller. Thanks in advance!
