Baby Shower Etiquette

Rant/Vent

I have an etiquette question regarding paying for a baby shower. My husband and I are expecting our first in a few months. My parents are throwing us a baby shower. My mother in law never really said anything about throwing us a baby shower or wanting to contribute to one. She is financially not in a good place and actually probably can’t contribute to one.

My mom planned to invite my mother in law and sister in law to the shower, and also asked my husband if he had any other women that have been a big part of his life that he wants to invite. My husband mentioned this to his mother and now she wants to invite her whole half of the family, which is awkward for my parents because it is going to double the expenses. I have never even met some of the people she wants to invite.

Etiquette wise, should my parents be expected to accommodate this or should they set some limits?
