Do audiodramas still bring in funds through ads even years later?

I'm trying to understand how anyone makes money with audiodramas. I understand it's like $20 per 1K downloads on average (please correct me if I'm wrong), but let's say a season of a series just sits there for years with no follow up season, does it generally still bring in ad funds?
