Need help selecting an amp
Currently in the process of slowly upgrading my home theater/listening room. Currently have a Denon 6300 running 5.1. I have just purchased a Monitor Audio Gold C150 center channel and will be purchasing the MA Silver 500’s for my L/R. By all accounts, a dedicated amp does wonders for these speakers. My question is, should I go with a 3 channel to run the LCR channels or a 2 channel amp for L/R and let the Denon handle Center and all surrounds for movies or 5 channel stereo etc.
I listen to music 90/10 (maybe 95/5) versus HT. So I’d like to add an amp to listen to just my LR with no sub, hence why I went with the 500’s and the dual 8” drivers. I’m pretty sure a 2 channel amp will be the way to go, but if there is a good reason to go 3 channel, I’d love to get some insight.
Full disclosure, I’m an MA fanboy, I know what I want and don’t need guidance to pick the speakers. For any amp, I’m looking used, but would like at least 200wpc up to 250wpc.
I’m trying to stay around $1k for the amp. I’m considering Rotel 1582, Parasound Halo, Anthem, Arcam, NAD and possibly Marantz. My preference would be to stay with a class AB amp and not Class D, but I’m not ruling those out. Would love to get some feedback!
