Ok first the background info- We have a TSX freezer that warms itself once a year so we defrost it. We have racks but not enough to fill the freezer- some of our storage is crap in styrofoam boxes from grad students in 2016 that my PI won’t tell me if we can keep or get rid of. So I just keep loving it around during our thaws and put it in the back for storage.

Most of our other storage is slide boxes or aav viruses that are kept in styrofoam boxes as well. So this time I am getting us more organized and I’ll be working with our tech to transfer viruses into labeled boxes that will be stored on the racks.

This is the second time this year we’ve had to thaw our freezer because the lower two compartments would not get colder than -50 for a week. But the upper compartments were being measured at -90 so how do I get it to be more equalized consistently? We do have a map of where things are in the freezer

Our freezer never really frosts up. The seals are in good condition. The door is closed all the way, so I’m thinking the efficiency is in how the freezer is organized and packed? We have more racks and boxes in our neighboring lab freezer that we will transfer back into this one.

They have a TSU unit that is always frosty inside the compartments and icy on the seals and they NEVER have temperature issues

They have a lot of empty space on the bottom of the freezer and the top compartments are full 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️
