Someone help me understand (spoilers ep.6)

SpoilerDiscussion

My name is Major Hanlon. I just killed my best friend because my son was supposed to be at home but instead, he was in the middle of a covert military operation and ran into a live fire situation. My son is angry with me because I tell my son he needs to stay home because a man so close to our family he calls him “uncle” is dead because he was monster hunting.

This is a real, no shit, human eating monster and I know it is. I tell my wife it is. My son corroborates this story to my wife. My son has the audacity to blame my best friend’s death on me, so I lose it and strike him. My son leaves and I let him (?!?!).

My wife (who is helping to harbor a fugitive btw tee hee) is upset with me because I lost my cool and hit our son (understandable) but is absolutely, totally ok with our son continuing to meet up with those friends and continue monster hunting this real, no shit, human gobbling motherfucker and I’m the bad guy here? What the actual fuck? Oh, and she’s ok with bringing our son to where I am hiding this fugitive because there’s no underlying threat of racial violence here, right? He’s totally safe in this fucking bar right outside of the town where people are walking around with fucking shotguns looking for the previously mentioned fugitive.

My brain is tainted with hyper-vigilance because of past trauma, and I am very over protective of my family, so I may just be fully incapable of understanding Mrs. Hanlon’s point of view here. I need some help to understand. How the fuck is Major Hanlon the bad guy here? Mrs. Hanlon is right in that her and her son need to get the fuck out of dodge until this covert mission is over, but holy hell are these some questionable choices.
