How do you take a new laptop (gift) through TSA?

You know how when you go through TSA, they’re wildly inconsistent? Some airports require you to take laptops out of your carry-on, some don’t.

If you bought a new laptop, so it’s still in its original packaging, do you have to take it out of the box in order to go through the TSA screening?

Assume you don’t want to check it, and want to bring it via the carry on.
