What are we doing during school breaks?

Child 4-9 Years

I'm currently a SAHM, but due to rent, grocery, retail prices so high, I will need to get a part or full time job in the near future.

My partner currently works 2nd shift, so when my son starts school in September (he's 5), I'll find a part time first shift job and my parter can watch our 1 yo. I don't think he'll want to stay on 2nd shift forever, and I know a lot of parents who have school aged kids that work the same shifts.

Does everyone put their kids in daycare for summer/winter breaks!? What about when the kids are older... like 7-10? Still daycare? My parents aren't as reliable as I had hoped, as they have some bad habits and weird working schedules, so I can't really count on them.

Am I really better off staying home with my kids at that point?

Trying to make it by financially is crazy hard.
