The amount of perfectly good tech that gets discarded is honestly shocking…
Hey everyone 👋
Refreshed Tech here again, and we wanted to share something we see every single week that still blows my mind — and get your thoughts on it.
A lot of schools and businesses upgrade their devices every 2–4 years, even when the tech is still working. When they do, we’re often the ones who buy the old equipment. And honestly?
The condition of these “old” devices would surprise a lot of people.
We regularly get:
- Laptops with minimal wear
- Chromebooks that were barely used
- Tech that still has years of life left
- Devices that were retired just because of a refresh cycle
Instead of being re-used, most of this tech would normally end up:
- in storage closets
- recycled prematurely
- or worse… headed toward the waste stream
Our job is to buy it, refurbish it, and get it back into the hands of people who actually need affordable tech — instead of letting it turn into e-waste.
From your perspective:
- Have you ever bought refurbished?
- Would you consider it?
- What’s the biggest reason people hesitate?
- Or, if you work in IT or a school district, what drives refresh cycles on your end?
Curious to hear what this community thinks. The gap between “used” and “unusable” tech is honestly way bigger than most people realize!
