Need Advice: Best place to park outside of the city and transit in via rail?

Hey! So I am a college student at Binghamton (Southern Tier of NYS near the Pennsylvania border) and am returning home to Long Island on the 13th. I am looking to get a lazer tattoo removal the same day I return home but am terrified of driving in manhattan (im not the strongest driver) and know that parking is going to be hell, so I am looking to find the closest and most efficient place to park my car, take a train into the city, go to the appointment, come right back and continue my drive home. So this station I need to park my car can either be on LI or on the outskirts above/left of the city, I'm just looking for the closest one. I've done Poughkeepsie one or twice but it doesnt feel like the most efficient.
