Any Tips For NY Winter Bass Pond Fishing Out Of A Yak?
Looking for any tips for winter fishing ponds, out of a kayak. I had a lot of success right up until my last full trip mid-October, but haven’t been able to fish for a little over a month now. As of those October trips, I was hooking up frequently with my chatter baits and even some top water. I plan on taking my kayak out today after work for about 2 hours. It’s currently clear skies, sunny, and not as windy as it’s been.
I live in NY, and the water temps where I fish, I’d assume are around the 50’s being most of the pond is fairly shallow. The pond that I fish has a depth of about 12 ft. Most of it is in the 4-6ft range or less. Out of the few dudes I know that bass fish, most of them put their rods down until spring.
I stopped by the pond yesterday just to check out the water conditions. The greens have pretty much all cleared from the top, and fallen to the bottom. All the pads are pretty much almost dead. The bottom looks to have a thick layer of cheese or algae build up, but above that is clear water.
I’ve also heard that winter is a great opportunity to catch some bigger bass, but this is my first winter with my kayak. Curious as to what kind of information fellow anglers on here can offer.
I’d appreciate any pointers. Thanks!
