Does the product you move reflect on the employees?

I recently made the move after 8 years at Bimbo Bakeries to a pharmaceutical distribution warehouse and the difference in people is the biggest culture shock to me.

While I (and my coworkers) were paid extremely well at Bimbo, the culture there was absolutely awful. It’s cheap bread and the company didn’t care if we threw away thousands of lbs a day. This was reflected in the workers.

Now with the product being pharmaceuticals, it’s just a complete 180.

Management listens, the workers are all much more personable people with lives outside of work, and there’s a level of trust inherent in working there that everyone feels comfortable and there’s so little drama that’s stirred.

Has anyone else had experiences similar? Different products have inherently different work cultures?
