What does "walkable" mean to you?

I think we all have different definitions of "walkable," so I'm just curious. What does "walkable" mean to you, and how does that definition vary (or not)? Is it more of a vibe? More based on elevation? Strictly based on distance/time?

A few examples:

- When you say a location is walkable to public transit, how far does that usually mean to you? 1-2 minutes? 5-10 minutes? 15 minutes? 20 minutes? 3 minutes for a bus stop, but 15 minutes for a Muni station/line or BART station? What is convenient vs inconvenient?

- How far are you willing to walk from your front door to a restaurant or bar? 5 minutes? 10 minutes? 15 minutes? 20 minutes? Up to 1.5 miles, as long as it's mostly flat? Less than 5 minutes?

- How far are you willing to walk to a friend's house?

- What about to a park or to the ocean?

- A grocery store?

- Would you consider a 20 minute walk (one way) to the office "walkable"? What about 30 minutes? At what point is it no longer walkable to you?

- How much do hills factor into what you consider to be walkable?

- Do you consider a location itself to be much more walkable if the neighborhood is pretty/pleasant and less walkable if it involves crossing under/over freeways, 4+ lanes of traffic, or rougher neighborhoods if the total distance covered is longer in the first example, or not?
