Quiting before my start date

I currently work at the old hospital but I got a job offer to transfer to the new hospital on January 12th. I want to quit my current job way before my start date but if I do im going to be considered an external candidate instead of being an internal one. Can the contract I signed at the new hospital be cancelled if I quit too early at my current job?
