Home or Student Loans?

Debt

I’m looking for advice on whether I should focus on paying off my student loans quickly or put my extra money toward saving for a home.

I’m 28/29, married, living in Missouri, and we don’t have kids. We both work full time. One job pays about $42k base and the other pays about $45k base plus commission, and I also earn between $4,000 and $8,000 a year in part-time tax work. Our credit scores are both around 750 and we typically have around $3,000 in available credit but carry no balances.

Our monthly net income averages between $6,500 and $8,000. Our fixed expenses are relatively low:

rent is $1,275 electric $150 insurance is $120 internet is $45 subscriptions total about $60 gas around $150 groceries are about $300 Gyms $60 My student loan payment is $260.

Altogether our total monthly expenses are roughly around $2,400 before variable spending.

For assets, we have about $2,000 in checking, $2,500 in savings, and another $4,000 sitting in SGOV/T-bills. My Roth IRA balance is $58,300. Our HSA has $3,170. One 401k has $3,250 and another has $6,430. I have around $515 in Bitcoin. We own both of our vehicles outright: a 2015 Subaru Forester and a 2024 Hyundai Elantra.

Our only debt is $31,000 in student loans. We have no credit card debt and no car loans.

Our goals are to buy a home and retire early or at least on time. What I’m trying to decide is whether I should aggressively pay down the student loans or instead focus on building up a down payment for a house. Currently just been trying to max at least one IRA a year.
