help with trains

now I do love trains in Factorio and know about signals and such, but it just doesn't click for me here. tracks aren't easy to create considering terrain and such, they take a fuck ton of space if you try to put them inside a town, I don't quite get how end stations work, etc. can anyone tell me what I'm missing? some tips on successfully using trains in this game?
