C273 Passed!
First Off - YOU'VE GOT THIS!
There are so many posts out there that absolutely made me horrified of this course. BUT, with the right amount of study and determination, you've got this. I unfortunately ran across some health issues on top of procrastination, and delayed this course by over a month. I sat down over a long weekend, studied for about 15-20 hours, and passed my OA that same weekend. It is memorization heavy. (I am not good at memorization)
- USE THE PROVIDED SOURCES!! I can not stress this enough. They seriously give you what you need. I found the videos the most helpful, and I took my own notes along the way. They also provide a study guide that you can edit if you prefer that route.
-
Be sure to know the founders! and what they believe. My OA had zero questions on dates/order of occurrences of the founders and perspectives. Marx, Weber, Durkheim and Comte seemed to pop up the most, but all are important.
-
Get familiar with the major perspectives and understand how each of the four perspectives (functionalist, conflict, feminist, symbolic) apply. Focus extra attention on Deviance. Course instructors said deviance was a category students seem to struggle with. My PA and OA confirmed this lol.

I attended the live cohorts but they didn't make much of a difference for me personally - especially being able to refer to the same slides at my own pace and on my own time. The OA is more application based than the PA. I found this easier, maybe its just how my brain works. PAY ATTENTION to the key words attached to each perspective. You don't need to memorize them, but understand for example, conflict can be attached to struggle, power, exploitation. If I was debating between two answers, and I saw one had a key word connected to the question, that was the answer I chose.
-
Optional - but I used some outside resources. Crash Course Sociology on YT. As well as Quizlet. I'll link both.

There were some questions that were challenging, but also some that were like "wow is this really on here?..." for example.. I had a question asking which career a man would more likely have: teacher, nurse, firefighter. But I also had questions of a given situation that I had to analyze to determine which perspective had been applied and base my answer on supporting words.
Overall - Other posts scared the shit out of me and I really got worked up. But build yourself a strong base and you'll ace it. You've got this. Take your time. Build a strong base of founders -> 4 perspective definitions -> application of perspectives.
Seriously, YOU GOT THIS!!!!!
