Why do some people on this sub keep trying to kick me out of the Democratic Party when I agree with liberals on 90% of issues? Shouldn't we be a big tent?
I agree with the Democrats on 90%+ of actual issues. I support universal healthcare (preferably single-payer but the ACA is way better than nothing). Support progressive taxation, Keynesian economics, labor unions, strong minimum wages, the social safety net, Medicaid, food stamps, ACA subsidies etc. Very strongly pro-choice on abortion. Support strong gun control. Pro gay marriage. Pro DREAM act, pro pathway to citizenship for undocumented immigrants (while also enforcing the border and deporting violent criminals), pro supporting Ukraine, etc. Pro legalization of marijuana. Support the Green New Deal. Stem Cell Research. IVF. Disability rights. Criminal justice reform, etc. I support carbon taxes and investment in green energy. I oppose voter ID laws and support democracy.
Voted for Obama, Hillary, Biden, and Harris, on top of Democrats all the way downballot for state and local levels.
But multiple users on here have called me a fake liberal, or pretending to be a liberal, or I should change my flair to conservative despite the fact the right would hate my views and I have virtually nothing major in common with them.
The reason? One, I'm very skeptical of left-wing identity politics, including topics like safe spaces, microaggressions, cultural appropriation, deplatforming, cancel culture, etc., and feel this really harmed the Democrats electorally. I think the MeToo movement, while overall good, had some clear overreaches such as with Al Franken and Aziz Ansari. I have admitted the right wing is way worse on free speech and cancel culture now too.
Second, I don't fully support trans women in women's sports. I support the Pete Buttigieg approach of letting individual sports leagues determine eligibility (archery is likely fine to be co-ed, combat sports are not). Gavin Newsom is to the right of me on this in wanting to ban trans athletes in women's sports. I also am OK consuming art from problematic figures like JK Rowling.
Third, I'm pro Trans-Pacific Partnership, and free trade. I think Trump's tariffs have been disastrous and Biden continuing some of Trump's trade policies on China was bad. But Trump 2.0's tariffs are horrifying to the economy.
Fourth, I think some progressives are misguided on some economic policies including rent control, which ends up restricting housing supply.
Fifth, while I support the DREAM Act and a pathway to citizenship, I also DO support stronger border enforcement including the swift deportation of violent criminals.
Sixth, I think the leftists who refused to vote for Hillary or Kamala because they weren't progressive enough on foreign policy or other issues, particularly in swing states, are idiots and should be shamed.
Seventh, I have praised Ezra Klein and the abundance movement on here, and people keep calling me a neoliberal shill.
Eighth, I'm not a huge fan of race-based reparations and think they're unrealistic.
Ninth, I'm not completely based car-based infrastructure in suburban and rural areas: I think cities should be walkable with good transit though.
Because of this, people have claimed I'm deeply conservative, or a fake liberal, or should change my flair, despite my POLICIES lining up almost perfectly with the Democrats.
So why are some users on here trying to kick me out of the Democratic Party over minor disagreements?
