MFM debrief
Hi all. It has been nearly 7 weeks since i lost my sweet boy at 31 weeks due to a placental abruption caused by undiagnosed/rapid onset pre-eclampsia. Today we met with the high risk doctors (they took over my care when they confirmed an abruption, otherwise i had a “healthy” pregnancy) to discuss what happened, what a future pregnancy would look like, and to ask any questions. They told me my baby looked good, no growth restriction or other complications with him. They said my placenta looked good besides the signs of an acute abruption. Genetic testing was good. My lab work was also good. No diabetes. No pre-existing hypertension. No significant past medical history.
So basically this was bad fucking luck 😭 the awful sequence of pre eclampsia ➡️ placental abruption ➡️ stillbirth (then further complicated by hemorrhage/DIC, acute kidney injury, and the preeclampsia with severe features stuck around postpartum too). In a way, I am grateful to have a tangible explanation for why I lost my baby. But, it feels so unfair. We were doing everything “right” and nothing was wrong with our baby. He was perfect 😭 We were so fucking close. I thought the third trimester was going to be safe. I’m grateful for this community 🤍
