Why Is CAT Still Banning Basic Calculators in 2025?

Rant :snoo_angry:

Hey everyone, after yesterday’s QA paper I have just one question why aren’t we allowed to carry a basic physical calculator into the exam hall? It might sound absurd to some, but honestly, what’s the harm? It’s 2025. Even exams like CA and most university exams allow simple battery-operated calculators.

If the concern is cheating, candidates can easily be checked. And when we’re already paying an amount of ₹2600 as the form fee, the least they can do is either allow basic calculators or provide a functioning one. With the amount of calculation involved, that integrated on-screen calculator is a joke.

At this point, it’s not even testing aptitude it’s just checking who can punch digits faster.
