Can someone tell me the knowledge of having to connect a headphone set to an xbox?

I'd like to take advantage of cyber Monday to get a good headset for my Xbox

I would like to start using a mic for online play on my Xbox one X (recently upgraded from the one s). I've decided that I would like to get a bluetooth headset. Now I'm looking online and I'm seeing a couple of options.

1. get a bluetooth adapter that plugs into the 3.5mm jack on my controller and then I connect a bluetooth headset to that? (does this work with something like airpods?) how does this work?

2. there's headsets that use 2.4 ghz to connect a headset?

also some wireless gaming headphones only have mic usage on 2.4 and not the 3.5. so can someone who knows this explain it to me like I'm stupid. and also recommendations on what to do?
