PSA: Lemontek works but not how you think it does

The addition of acids or other reagents can help modify the pH and improve the solubility of target compounds, increasing the extraction yield, as well as contributing to the stabilization of the extracted molecules, preventing oxidation and thereby enhancing the yield.

The addition of acidic solvents and salts to methanol, such as acetic acid, ammonium nitrate, or 3-indoxyl phosphate disodium, can increase the extraction efficiency of psilocybin and psilocin. The presence of acetic acid improves the stability of compounds like psilocin, which is more prone to oxidative handling, providing an acid-friendly environment and limiting the formation of undesirable by-products.

Lemontek does not convert psilocybin to psilocin. That process is driven by the enzymes in our stomach, not some weak acid in a cup.

Lemontek works because you’re grinding up the solids and then soaking it which makes it all easier (AKA quicker) to digest. Additionally, the acid in the lemon juice extracts some of the psilocybin, and of course liquids digest faster than solids.

Secondary PSA: when you see bluing, that’s ‘wasted’, oxidized psilocin. A battered, blue fruit will have less bioavailable psilocin than a carefully handled fruit.
