Statistic/Category Battles are the WORST form of Powerscaling

Battleboarding

Literally just the title.

I do know how like invented this, but it’s the dumbest shit ever, and I hate it.

Instead of just scaling characters directly or anything, you basically have like various categories, and who ever takes the most based on their showings wins. It really just feels like if you only ever used feats and ignored literally anything else including context

So it’ll be like.

Versatility Physical Strength Reaction Speed Attack Speed Durability Knowledge Etc.

The reason why this annoys me oh so much is because it’s only done for in verse things.

Like the avatar fandom suffers from it bad, and I think it’s really prevalent for Katara fans to be the ones to use it, especially against Korra Waterbenders.

This started because people can’t accept that Yakone and Amon being able to psychically waterbend during day time, making them stronger than people who can do regular bloodbending during day time which makes them stronger than any other water bender who needs the full moon to blood bend.

Because they can’t accept that Katara gets stomped by Yakone and Amon. They propose category battles instead.

So now Katara’s the winner because she took versatility, etc. It doesn’t even feel like comparing stats, it’s like people can’t seem to comprehend that just because someone is well rounded, just one slight difference makes them lose.

Now yes if this was like a different franchise debate I would understand. But this is the same universe. Katara having more feats because she was the main character ATLA doesn’t change the fact that canonically these people are stronger than her.

I think discord debates have this problem really bad. Like I was literally in a charmed server, and like people were saying Paige is stronger than her sisters because she has a like a feat that implies universal scaling.

The problem is that it’s stated time and time again the charmed ones are all extremely relative to each other in magical power. Like it’s literally stated that you need charmed like amounts of power to do certain things in verse magically. Like I could understand some difference in power but not the astronomical amount they’re implying

But no. In this feats only, statements don’t matter, logic of the show doesn’t matter. Form of Debate, Paige is universal, while her older sister, who’s stated to be the most powerful witch in the land. She’s just building level because Paige cast a spell and she didn’t. [ITS NOT EVEN LIKE SHE WAS TOO WEAK TO CAST THE SPELL, PAIGE WAS JUST THE ONE WHO DID]

I, don’t know. Each day, I grow to hate debates more and more. Starting to just embrace fanfiction, because at least that’s coherent idk.
