Aftermarket upper control arms

My 2006 ranger has been off the road for the past couple weeks because the front driveshafts both busted, the mechanic is now aayong its something to do with the correct upper control arms nor being put on etc, I bought the truck with lift kit already installed so I'm not too sure about that but basically the mechanic is saying its going to cost £1000 ($1300) while also saying I should just buy their BMW x5 for the same price.

I've found upper control arms online for £120 ($160) and some of the stuff they've said it seems like they want me to sell the truck to them, which will 100% not be happening, so basically does what they're saying have any truth to it? Are they tryna pull a fast one? Am I paranoid? What's the meaning of life?
