New passport after appointment booked?

Hi all, my passport has only 2 blank pages but 3 more years of validity so I’m applying for a new passport now.

I read through some threads but just wanted to confirm about passport renewal before going for appointment but after DS160 submission and after booking the appt on the website.

When I go for the biometrics, I should carry both old and new DS160 + old and new passport and ask them to update it in the system? Am I understanding this correctly?
