AIO 24F/26M — Am I overreacting about how fast this is moving?
Hi everyone,
I (24F) live about six hours away from my hometown, where this guy (26M) still lives. We’ve had on-and-off contact for about a year. We’ve hooked up and gone on dates before, but things ended because we were both still dealing with our exes in our respective cities.
I went home over a holiday break recently, and we reconnected. During the week I was home, he planned multiple really thoughtful dates and put in a lot of effort. We had a genuinely great time. He even took me to a sports game where I met and pregamed with several of his friends.
I know part of his family already because I’m close with his cousin, but while I was home he invited me to a smaller, more intimate family gathering. I turned that one down because it felt too soon, but I did go with him to see his family band perform, which was more casual and comfortable.
Now I’m back in my city until Christmas. We already have plans for when I visit then, so I assumed we wouldn’t see each other until December. But he’s already reached out saying he wants to fly down this weekend to spend time with me. He also invited me on his friend group’s annual ski trip in January.
Here’s where I’m conflicted:
We haven’t talked about feelings or what any of this means. It feels like things are moving really fast, and I can’t tell if I’m just nervous because I’m not used to this level of effort… or if the pace really is too much.
The distance complicates things too. I don’t want to move back home anytime soon, and I really don’t want to be in a long-distance relationship. He doesn’t have solid plans to move, though he is exploring possible jobs in my city for next fall — but nothing definite. At one point, he even mentioned that an issue with his ex was that she moved and didn’t want long-distance, which makes me wonder if I’m stepping into that same situation.
So… am I overreacting? Is this just what it looks like when someone shows genuine interest, or are these genuinely fast-moving signs I should be cautious about?
