Long story short, we were told the house failed septic inspection, the neighbor said they actually caved/fell into the old concrete septic tank with a bobcat and had to replace it. They also did the pump chamber.

Since we lived here 2-3 times a day we can smell sewer when we are outside. There is no visible water coming up, or standing and the smells seems to be strongest further from the mount field leading me to believe there is no issue there.

I do not believe permits were pulled at its code to have riser in the septic tank to be pumped and they didn’t put any on. Another septic company said it would pass inspection without them. 

Doing some digging for different issues I’ve ran into concrete platforms about 3-4 feet down at least 16x16. Also about 2 week who a small, 5 gal bucket hole appeared with some visible liquid in it, but it is only 12-16inch below the ground, however I can see a concrete pillar or shape in it. 

I don’t think they removed or properly caved in the old system, just buried a new system and connected it.

Could this be the cause for the smell or could it be something else? Is there any more information you need to help? If i hired a septic company to come out could they help identify if things were done properly, camera the drain and trace it?

New house, septic smell. New septic tank and new pump chamber leading to mound system. Smell of sewer intermittently through the day. Possible installation error?
